Oct. 15 Update

The week of October 15 had a lot going on tech-wise. Students in 7th grade science used information gathered from their helicopter drops, using dependent and independent variables, to create Google Docs Spreadsheets. Once their spreadsheets were created, they used this data to create a variety of charts using Google's many new spreadsheet features. Check out the video at right to see what's new in the charting department.

EAL students in Mr. Desmond's class kept working on their electronic portfolios (Mahara system). Students were able to embed their Voicethread math projects as well as create a directory to keep files organized by class year and subject.

Robotics club members had a busy afternoon on Thursday, looking at the various missions and then inputting data into a shared Google spreadsheet so that we can, as a team, decide on which missions to concentrate on. If you take a close look at the spreadsheet above, you'll notice that students were also able to link directly to a specific time in a YouTube video. This will help all members easily and quickly get to the right part of the video, which is an important resource as we learn about the individual missions. When we come back from break, club members will continue working on their chosen missions, designing and programming a variety of robots for the upcoming tournament in Helsinki.
